It is all start with my father sending me this picture
A few days ago, I saw this picture that my father sent to me.
He was on a business trip and while he passing by the Huaihe River he saw a huge sesame field.
Then he sent those pictures he took back to me.
I didn't know that was sesame plants in the first place.
And he said this old lady in this picture reminds him of my grandma.
He said every household in his village planted sesame back then.
After the sesame was harvested, it could be used to trade sesame oil.
Sesame is a mainstay of East-asia cuisine. It is an incredible ingredient and
could be topped on basically every single dishes. When it was pressed into oil,
it becomes a perfect food enhencer that you can add it in soups or hotpot dipping sauce.
One of my favorite desserts these days is to add a tablespoon of
black-sesame paste into a cup of yogurt,
then I will stir it and leave it in fridge for half an hour.
It will taste just like black-sesame flavored ice cream!
I love sesame-flavored everything, but I never get to know how a sesame plant
looks like by chance. So I am writing this because I just found this interesting and
wanted to share the story of sesame with those who are not familiar with sesame plants.
"芝麻开花节节高"
There is a saying in Chinese “芝麻开花节节高”, which basically means "the
sesame stalk rises steadily and flowers higher and higher."
This usually conveys blessing for chilren to succeed in the future and always go higher.
